Peter Meade, community activist and Blue Cross executive received the Eire Society’s 69th Gold Medal Award for his tireless volunteer work in the Boston Irish community and beyond. The 2006 prestigious Gold Medal Dinner and Award Ceremony took place on the evening of Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the Park Plaza on 64 Arlington Street in Boston.

Mr. Meade is a Dorchester native and first generation Irish American whose parents immigrated from County Clare, Ireland. As Executive Vice President for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Peter Meade directs the company's public, government and community relations, legislative and regulatory affairs, and corporate communications. In this capacity, Meade draws upon his broad experience in the public and private sectors. He served the city of Boston as public safety coordinator and commissioner of parks and recreation during the White administration. From 1983 to 1992, Meade gained a reputation for astute political analysis and commentary as a radio talk show host at WBZ-AM. His business career also included serving as Vice President at Warner Amex Cable Communications and President and CEO of The New England Council.

In addition to his responsibilities at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Peter shares his time and effort with various community and service organizations. He is the Chair of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy and Co-Chairman of the MassINC Board of Directors. He serves on the Board of Directors for the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, the Anti-Defamation League of New England and The New England Council. He is also on the Board of Catholic Charities, having just completed a term as its Chair. He is the former Vice Chair of his alma mater, Emerson College, and former member of the board of directors of Neighborhood Health Plan and Health Care for the Homeless.

The Eire Society's Gold Medal is awarded annually to a person of Irish heritage who has made significant contributions to society and to their chosen fields of expertise. Previous recipients include President John F. Kennedy, filmmakers John Ford and John Huston, Irish actress Siobhan McKenna and former poet Seamus Heaney. Previous recipients include President John F.
